The coding of magnetic length measurement technology and magnetic angle measurement technology

The magnetic tapes used (flexible steel tape with a magnetic layer) are manufactured at SIKO with the utmost precision and care. The magnetic tape systems are given one or more magnetic code tracks in specially developed processes.

Magnetic incremental measurement as an economical encoder solution

Incremental coding results in robust and cost-effective all-round solutions in which, for example, the flexible magnetic tapes can be customized before self-adhesive mounting. In the incremental version, the magnetic tape is regularly coded with north and south poles. The pole length is crucial for maximum resolution and system accuracy. The smaller the distances between the individual poles, the higher the accuracy class of the respective magnetic tape.

Magnetic absolute measurement for high measurement reliability

The absolute encoding of the tape material leads to system properties with particular strengths in terms of repeat accuracy and measurement reliability. Equipped with the appropriate linear encoders or rotary encoders, absolute magnetic measurement allows position detection even in a de-energized state. After power interruptions, e.g. after switching off the system and switching it on again, the actual position value is recorded and converted even if the sensor position has changed in the meantime.

Simple installation of magnetic length measurement technology and magnetic angle measurement technology

The magnetic linear encoders and magnetic angle encoders in the "MagLine" series can be mounted directly on the positioning process or machining process, thus preventing measurement errors that can occur due to gear backlash or spindle tolerances, for example.

The reading distance between the magnetic sensor and the magnetic tape can be significantly greater than with optical measuring systems, for example. Furthermore, it is not a problem if the distance varies within the defined limits over the measuring range (e.g. due to height impacts or imprecise guides). The accuracy and reproducibility of the position values do not deteriorate as a result.
