Inclinometer IMS365

New inertial measurement unit (IMU) for mobile machines

Precision on another level: The inertial measurement unit (IMU) for extreme conditions

SIKO GmbH is setting the standard with its new IMS365: This inertial measurement unit (IMU) delivers high precision in dynamic applications and withstands the toughest challenges. Specially developed for the automation of mobile machines, the IMS365 represents a milestone in position measurement, as it provides not only inclination, gyroscope and acceleration values, but also new measurements such as euler angles.

Thanks to the integrated Kalman filter and the advanced sensor fusion algorithm, disturbance variables such as lateral acceleration, shocks and vibration are effectively eliminated from the inclination signal. The IMS365 therefore delivers precise inclination values even in highly dynamic applications such as excavators, AGVs, agricultural and forestry machines. The powerful sensor fusion algorithm also ensures a fast response time and impressive measurement quality. The filter parameters can be adapted individually to specific requirements, while raw data is made available for external processing. In addition, the IMS365 presents the inclination values as euler angles, including the pitch and roll angle, which describe three-dimensional alignment. The IMS365 therefore provides all the information required for machine automation.

Maximum flexibility thanks to adjustable measurement axes
The IMS365 measures inclination, acceleration and rotation rates in all three spatial axes. All the measurement data required is therefore available at all times. The distinctive feature is that measurements can be carried out completely independently of the installation position. Measurement axes can be adjusted specifically to the circumstances of the application. This adjustment can also be carried out automatically by the sensor itself. A further innovation of the IMS365 is the integrated heating element, which can be switched on and off via the interface as required. This ensures consistently high accuracy and reliability, even with large temperature fluctuations.

Optimal combination of robust and compact design
The new housing design with two M12 connectors allows easy connection of multiple sensors in series and thus reduces effort and costs for cabling. Thanks to the slim design measuring less than 26 mm, the IMS365 can also be installed in applications with very limited space without difficulty. It can therefore be fitted almost anywhere in a machine, offering great flexibility in machine construction. With the tried and tested PURE.MOBILE technology from SIKO, the IMS365 meets a multitude of normative and regulatory requirements for mobile machines, including strict environmental specifications such as temperature resistance, dirt, salt spray, EMC, etc. In addition, the IMS365 has E1 approval according to UN ECE R10 from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, meaning that it can be used in mobile machines on public roads without any issues.

One sensor – countless applications
Inclination, acceleration and rotation rates – the IMS365 provides a multitude of position information, which facilitates its use in a wide range of applications. Activation of the sensor fusion algorithm delivers stable inclination values even in dynamic applications. Installed on the arm and bucket of an excavator, the IMS365 thus provides reliable position values, even with rapid rotations and shocks when loading and unloading the bulk material. In autonomous systems such as AGVs, the IMS365 can be used for navigation. The high-quality signal and low offset drift ensure reliable values over a long period without restarting the system. But also, in classical applications such as the inclination measurement of a vehicle for automatic levelling or adjustment of blade sections of attachments to agricultural machines, efficiency and productivity can be boosted significantly with the help of the IMS365. With a choice of CANopen and SAE-J1939 interfaces, the sensor is easy to integrate into the overall system.

Developed for the challenges of tomorrow
Developed for use in mobile machines such as construction machines, industrial trucks, agricultural and forestry machinery, and crane and lifting technology, the IMU delivers reliable and precise positional values even under challenging environmental conditions.
